Cool Nevada Events: Enjoy The Fun

Here are some fun things to do late in late summer and fall in our beautiful state:

Fallon Cantaloupe Festival

Location: Churchill County Fairgrounds, Fallon
Dates: August 29–31
Times: daily and evening events

Take the family to Fallon for a fun time at the area’s popular open air market. You’ll also enjoy exciting entertainment on stage, food tastings, sporting events, and more. Enjoy some of the best, and freshest, foods Nevada has to offer at the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival. And don’t forget to taste the cantaloupe specialties.

The Great Reno Balloon Race

Location: Rancho San Rafael Park, 1595 N. Sierra St, Reno
Dates: September 5-7

The Great Reno Balloon Race delivers family fun from the early morning Glow Show, to the mass release of brightly-colored hot air balloons, to a fun-time pajama party with balloonists from around the country. The event is always well attended, so plan ahead to reserve a good parking spot and room accommodations to enjoy this three-day celebration of ballooning.

International Camel Races

Location: Virginia City
Dates: September 5-7
Times: gates open at 10:00AM daily; races start at noon
Cost: $12 for adults

Camel drivers, ostrich wranglers and emu jockeys. From around the globe, they converge on Virginia City each fall to compete for trophies and bragging rights. Virginia City’s International Camel Races, now in its 55th year, will delight you and your entire family. There are races daily, starting at high noon.

The Reno Air Races

Location: Reno
Dates: September 10-14
Times: events are scheduled throughout the day
Cost: general admission: $6 per child; $14 per adult; $10 for seniors

The Reno Air Racing Association’s National Championship Air Races is an exciting way to spend a day as expert pilots navigate challenging courses. There are different classes of competition, and heritage aircraft on display. There’s lots to do and lots to see – from the excitement of planes racing at breath-taking speeds, to vendors and shopping fun for flying enthusiasts.

Silver State Classic Challenge

Location: Highway 318, Ely
Dates: September 18-21
Times: events and races throughout the day and evening

If you’ve ever dreamed of open road racing, the Silver State Classic Challenge gives you the chance to fire up your engine for some serious speed. You can enter your beast in a variety of categories (entry fees vary by class), or sit back and enjoy the races. If you feel the need for speed, visit this year’s Silver State Classic and get your motor running.

Pahrump Fall Festival

Location: Pahrump
Dates: September 25-28
Times: events are scheduled throughout the day
Cost: free (small fee for rodeo attendees)

What started as a local Harvest Festival back in 1964 has grown into aPahrumpValleyextravaganza with a colorful parade marching right down Highway 160, and a Wild West rodeo that’ll have you sitting on the edge of your seat. There’s always something for both kids and parents at the Pahrump Fall Festival – fun rides, a colorful carnival, and vendors from across the state.

Las Vegas Bikefest

Location: Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. N, Las Vegas
Dates: October 2-5

Time to strap on the leathers and check out the custom motorcycles from around the country – works of art sculpted in heavy iron. There are lots of vendors, nightly entertainment, the Bikefest Run, and lots of fun for bikers and enthusiasts. If you have a cool motorcycle, or just like to see the customized beauty of throaty rides, visit this year’s Las Vegas Bike Fest.

Pomegranate Arts and Crafts Festival

Location: Clark County Fairgrounds, 1301 W. Whipple St., Logandale
Dates: November 7-8
Times: 9:00AM – 4:00PM daily

The Moapa Valley Art Guild’s Pomegranate Arts and Crafts Festival has become a must-see for manyNevadaresidents. View fine arts and crafts created by local artisans. There’s free entertainment throughout the day, and food booths featuring all types of food made from local pomegranates. There are also raffles, art projects for the kids, and loads of fun for the whole family.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half-Marathon

Location: The Las Vegas Strip
Date: November 14-16
Times: marathon run starts at 4:30PM, November 16
Cost: entry fee for the marathon is $165; spectators watch free

Run the world famous Las Vegas Strip under the neon glow, and support a good cause as you make your way to the finish line. The Pahrump Powwow

Since 1998, the Pahrump Valley region has celebrated the culture of the area’s earliest Native American inhabitants with the Pahrump Powwow. Enjoy tribal dancers, native dress, songs, arts and crafts, and the heritage that is such an important part of our state. The Pahrump Powwow is family fun with an important message that every family member will enjoy.
