2015 Business Excellence Awards

The Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce celebrated the diversity, creativity and ingenuity of 25 southern Nevada businesses on October 8 at the Business Excellence Awards Luncheon, sponsored exclusively by Nevada State Bank. From sole proprietors and non-profits to large companies, the Business Excellence Awards recognize organizations that use creative approaches to doing business, find new methods to promote company culture, and develop innovative ways to carve out a niche in the marketplace.

“Nevada State Bank is proud to once again sponsor the Las Vegas Metro Chamber’s Business Excellence Awards,” said Cassaundra Johnson, SVP/Director of Sales for Nevada State Bank. “This awards program celebrates and shares the stories of businesses that strive for excellence, innovation, and philanthropy, both in their workplace and in our communities. This excellence is at the heart of Southern Nevada and results in providing jobs, products and services to help stimulate commerce. It is certainly our honor to recognize their achievements.”

Dr. Rex Liu, Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, was honored for the second time at the Business Excellence Awards. This year his practice was recognized for fostering a positive company culture through incentives and volunteerism. Highlighted was their participation in the “Give Kids a Smile” program, providing dental care to low-income children who couldn’t otherwise afford it. “It’s amazing to be a part of this celebration honoring so many fine businesses,” Dr. Liu shared.

An honoree in the “Innovators” category was Opportunity Village, a non-profit organization serving people with significant intellectual disabilities. Its many programs include vocational training, job placement, art and life-skill enrichment, and social recreation. “For a 60-year old company to be recognized as innovative is a great honor,” shared its CEO, Ed Guthrie. “I like to tell my people that the only way to sustain an organization over the long term is to look for ways to change every day. We can’t do business the way we did 10 years ago if we want to have staying power. We’re constantly looking for new ways to provide services using technology.”

Skyworks Aerial Systems was recognized in the “Pacesetters” category, combining the new technology of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) with its commitment to the community. Their products enable users to build their own drones and learn how to program them. Last school year, Skyworks volunteers spent more than 300 hours talking about technology with students in 20 local schools. “This award is an expression of the community’s support and underscores local efforts to help small high-tech businesses thrive,” said CEO Greg Friesmuth. “We’re very excited to have received it.”
