Letter from Dallas Haun
On October 14, the Nevada State Bank $20K Giveaway campaign to benefit our state’s public schools ended with a cliff-hanging finish. After eight weeks of voting on our Facebook page, more than 74,000 votes were cast–2,000 of them in the final 24 hours. It was my pleasure to pay a surprise visit with several of my colleagues to Clark High School in Las Vegas and tell a cheering assembly of students that their school had come in first by a margin of only 65 votes. We presented the school with a check for the first place prize of $10,000.
Nevada State Bank had invited the public to “like” our Facebook page between August 21 and October 14 and cast a vote for their favorite Nevada public school. At stake was a combined total of $20,000 that Nevada State Bank would donate to the three top finishers. The response speaks to the enthusiasm of Nevadans in support of their schools and to the power of social media to get good things accomplished. Clark High School received nearly 16,500 votes. The second prize of $6,000 went to Canarelli Middle School and the third prize of $4,000 to East Career and Technical Academy; also in Las Vegas.
A final note: The Nevada State Bank $20K Giveaway also created an online sensation–our social medial coordinator, Ryan. During the campaign, Ryan appeared in online videos to explain voting procedures and to report on the weekly standings. When he was introduced at Clark High School, the place exploded with cheers so loud that I could not hear what he was saying. Afterward, some of the students gathered around to ask him to sign the “$20K Giveway” T-shirts that we distributed, and of course he obliged. My personal thanks go to the entire Marketing Department for managing this hugely successful campaign.
Many colleagues at the Bank participated in this promotion, and we really enjoyed being able to help Nevada schools with a $20,000 donation. We’re looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2012.
