Nevada State Bank congratulates the Northern Nevada leaders honored by the Nevada Women’s Fund (NWF) at the 2014 Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon on May 29. The bank is proud to be an underwriter sponsor of this annual event celebrating women for their professional and personal community commitments.
In keeping with our tradition of honoring one colleague and one community leader each year, Nevada State Bank this year recognized Christi Cakiroglu, executive director of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful. Her organization sponsors several programs to recycle Christmas trees, clean up the Truckee River, adopt clean roadways, and more. Nevada State Bank is proud to honor Christi and her efforts to beautify the Truckee Meadows community.
We also recognized Marge Millar, vice president of Nevada State Bank, at the luncheon. Marge manages the Nevada State Bank northern headquarters branch on West Liberty Street in Reno. There she serves clients with whom she has built relationships during her 19 years in banking. She believes passionately in giving back to her community, notably as a tireless volunteer for Reno Rodeo Foundation and Junior Achievement (JA). Marge recently coordinated the bank’s first “JA in a Day,” sharing financial literacy with more than 400 area children.
Attendees and honored guests enjoyed a keynote address by Lucille O’Neal, author, motivational speaker, and mother of sports superstar Shaquille O’Neal, who shared her life story of overcoming great obstacles and finding a new beginning. At the luncheon, entrepreneur and community leader Bertha Miranda was inducted into the NWF 2014 Hall of Fame.
Debby Herman, senior vice president and Northern Nevada region manager for Nevada State Bank, is the current chair of the NWF board of directors. “Nevada State Bank is proud to be an underwriter of the 2014 Salute to Women of Achievement, and to join Nevada Women’s Fund in celebrating the tremendous accomplishments of women,” she said. “Women leaders have been a positive force in the growth of Nevada State Bank since our inception more than 54 years ago. In good times and in bad, they have led with character, pride and unwavering determination. These qualities describe so many of the honorees today. You are a wonderful representation of the generosity and passion that make our community such a wonderful place.”
NWF was founded in 1982 by concerned women who wanted the best for the women and families of northern Nevada. Since 1983, it has awarded more than $3.1 million in grants to 141 community organizations or programs providing assistance to women and children. It focuses its grants on three priority areas: the physical and mental health of Nevada’s women and families; the prevention of violence for Nevada’s women; and the aging of Nevada’s women.
The organization has also awarded more than $3.1 million in scholarships to 1,350 women since 1983. Most NWF scholarship recipients are re-entry women and single mothers who have not had the opportunity to complete their educations due to family issues and/or financial constraints.
Nevada State Bank salutes the Nevada Women’s Fund for their continuing efforts to make a difference in the Northern Nevada community and congratulates all the honorees.
