Helping Spread Holiday Cheer

Nevada State Bank assists local non-profits throughout the year in the 20 communities it serves, but during the holidays the Bank makes a special effort to help Nevada children by participating in two major programs: the 98.5 KLUC Toy Drive and the Reno Rodeo Denim Drive.

Toys, Games and Bikes, Oh My!

As a long-time sponsor of the 98.5 KLUC Toy Drive, Nevada State Bank collected new, unwrapped children’s toys and bikes this November and December to support the CBS radio station’s efforts. Toys dropped off at Nevada State Bank branch locations in the Las Vegas valley were delivered to KLUC’s Chet Buchanan & the Morning Zoo on December 9th, which was the 57th anniversary of the Bank’s founding. The Bank also sponsored the Nevada State Bank Cash and Gift Card Board, which kept a running total of the drive’s cash and gift card donations.

For 12 straight days, deejay Chet Buchanan camped on top of a 30-foot scaffold in the NV Energy parking lot as volunteers helped the radio station collect toys, bikes and cash donations around the clock. This year’s 18th annual toy drive broke all previous records, collecting more than 6,700 bikes, 30 truckloads of toys, and $442,000 in cash and gift cards from organizations and individuals throughout southern Nevada.

At the conclusion of the toy drive, thousands of toys, games, and bikes were delivered to HELP of Southern Nevada. The agency takes applications in November and December from low-income families in need of assistance during the holidays. Then it sets up a temporary “toy store” where families can pick out items for their children. More than 3,000 families a year benefit from the toy drive.

“Nevada State Bank was very excited to once again sponsor the 98.5 KLUC Toy Drive,” said Sandi Milton, senior vice president of marketing communications for Nevada State Bank. “Each year, more and more toys and bikes are collected, which truly speaks to the dedication of the community. Together, we helped make this a joyful and memorable holiday season for local children.”

Clothes for Kids

This is the sixth year that Nevada State Bank has placed collection bins in its branches throughout northern and rural Nevada so clients and other concerned citizens can donate clothing to the Reno Rodeo Foundation’s Reno Rodeo Denim Drive. Donations of new denim clothing, socks and underwear help abused and neglected infants, children and teens rescued from unsafe homes. Foundation volunteers pick up the clothing and distribute it to local community organizations.

Bank colleagues at each branch also encourage clients to “Donate a Dollar for Denim” by buying paper denim pockets, which quickly cover branch walls, showing the depth of community support for the project. The Reno Rodeo Foundation uses cash contributions to purchase additional new clothing items for children throughout the year. The Reno Rodeo Foundation serves as the charitable arm of the Reno Rodeo, northern Nevada’s longest-running and largest annual professional sports event.

Collection bins will be in place at Nevada State Bank branches through the end of the year, so there is still a chance to help northern Nevada children in need.
