As a member of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority Board appointed by Governor Sandoval, I am honored to take part in the process of bringing the Oakland Raiders football team to Las Vegas. Working with the other members of the nine-person board, it’s become very obvious to me that the Raiders want to be here, and that the Southern Nevada community wants them here.
The Raiders’ management team continues to work very hard on this project, and they are dealing in good faith to resolve issues as they come up, so that the team can move here on a mutually beneficial basis.
I look forward to the process over the next months leading to the actual construction of the 65,000-seat domed stadium. Site work on the 62-acre parcel at Interstate 15 and Russell Road should begin in December, and construction is scheduled to start in January 2018.
As in any project of this size, many challenges remain, but I am confident that with the support of the Stadium Authority and the Clark County business community, the stadium will be successfully constructed and the Raiders will kick off their 2020 season in a new stadium here in Las Vegas.
The stadium will mean new visitors, new jobs, and more tax revenue for our community. I’m proud to play a small role in this important project.
